Royal Dornoch's Cara Thompson, clear of the field after an opening qualifying round of three-under-par 70 at the Eden Course, slipped back to joint third place among the match-play qualifiers after taking 82 shots to get round the St Andrews New Course today in the Strathtyrum tournament.

Her aggregate of four-over 148 was beaten by leading qualifier Martine Pow (Selkirk) who had a 74 on the Eden and an excellent five-under 70 on the New for a 144 total - seven strokes ahead of the second qualifier Lucy Jamieson (Heswall) who shot 78-73.
Baberton's Karen Marshall, who has a formidable record over the years in the "Strathtyrum" safely qualified for the match-play in joint third place with scores of 78 and 74.
