Scottish Ladies Open Play delayed

The second day’s play at the De Vere Ladies Scottish Open was halted due to bad light at 7.10pm.
Heavy rainfall on Thursday night meant that tee times were pushed back three hours while officials assessed the course.
Sweden’s Sofia Renell leads the field on two-under-par 140 after shooting a three-under 68.
South Queensferry 16-year-old amateur Sally Watson had another good day with a 75 for 145, a 36-hole total which puts her ahead of professionals of the calibre of Janice moodie (146), Catriona Matthew (148) and Lynn Kenny (148).
Quite a few players have still to complete their second rounds which means that the third and final round will start late on Saturday.

Erskine Girls get coaching from Clare Queen and Catriona Matthew

Erskine girls were invited to attend a coaching clinic with Catriona Matthew and Clare Queen at the beautiful Carrick course prior to The Scottish Ladies Open this week. The girls were all smiles as you can see despite the awful weather. Catriona and Clare spent an hour with them giving some hints and tips and after signed autographs on hats, books etc. This was a unique and very rewarding experience for the girls aged between 9 and 13 who are all enjoying ClubGolf coaching at Erskine. There are now 11 girls participating in weekly coaching sessions at the club thanks to the volunteer coaches who make it all possible. Pictured with the girls are Janette McCartney, Sandra Littlejohn and Patricia Davidson all level 1 coaches and RLCGA members.

Noreen Fenton the best Scot at the British Seniors

Edinburgh's Noreen Fenton finished a gallant fourth behind runaway winner Alison Murdoch from Canada in the British senior women's open amateur golf championship which ended at Copt Heath Golf Club, Solihull today.
Noreen was consistency personnified with three rounds of 79 for a total of 18-over-par 237 over a punishing ladies' course with a testing par of 73, which no player, not even the new champion, equalled in any of the rounds.
Noreen had no birdies in her final round and did well to hang on in there after a double bogey 6 at the fourth threatened to derail her steady effort. She was out in 40 and home in 39 in comparison with her earlier halves of 40-39 and 39-40.
Pamela Williamson (Baberton), who won the recent Canadian senior women's open amateur championship's "Super-seniors" (over-60) title, finished joint 11th with Fiona de Vries (St Rule) on 241. Pamela signed off with a 78 (37-41) and Fiona with an 80 (42-38).

RLCGA's Honorary Member Maureen Richmond (Kilmacolm) the 1974 Curtis Cup player and now a GP in Lancashire, came joint 15th on 244 - which was quite an achievement, considering she started with a first round of 92. After that she had a 74 and then a 78 today
Give Maureen, winner of the Spanish open seniors title earlier in the year, an 82 instead of a 92 in the first round and she would have finished runner-up for the title!
Dundee's Heather Anderson birdied the fourth, 14th and 15th in closing halves of 41 and 40 for an 81 and jt 27th place with Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) on 248. Helen unfortunately had three double bogeys in a closing 84.

Helen Faulds makes the cut in the British Seniors

Noreen Fenton and Pat Hutton were sharing fourth place at the beginning of the second day of the British senior women's open amateur golf championship at Copt Heath Golf Club, Solihull.
At the end of it, Noreen, from the Merchants of Edinburgh Club had hung on to a share of third place with a repeat 79 for 158.
But Pat unfortunately had a disaster day with a 90 for 169 - and missed the cut which reduced the field to the 40 players who will play Friday's third and final round.
Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) had halves of 37 and 42 for a 79 and 164 to make the cut and Maureen Richmond, who, as Maureen Walker (RLCGA and Kilmacolm) was a Curtis Cup player in 1974, made the biggest improvement between rounds .... from a 92 to a 74, which was more like the player who won the Spanish senior women's open title earlier this year. Maureen had an eagle 2 at the sixth and birdies at two par-5s, the seventh and the 16th in halves of 35 and 39, compared with 49-43 on Wednesday.
