West of Scotland's Champion Pamela Pretswell leads the Scottish

Pamela Pretswell - Click to enlarge
The southwesterly half-gale - or maybe it was a full-gale - whipping in off the Solway Firth wreaked havoc in the first qualifying round of the Scottish women's amateur championship over the Southerness links this morning. Bothwell Castles Pamela Prestwell who won the West of Scotland Championship over Prestwick Golf Club at the beginning of the month was the leader in the clubhouse after today's round.
She had a triple bogey 7 at the first and then four bogeys before she had a double bogey at the sixth. Her first par figure amd at the seventh - and then she promptly bogeyed the next.
But, it was at the long ninth that the Pretswell rags-to-riches golfing transformation took pace.
She covered her last 10 holes in one eagle (at the long 16th), six birdies (at the long ninth, short 10th, 12th, long 13th, 14th and long 18th). Only one blemish, a bogey at the 17th.
All that added up to nine over par for the first nine holes and six under par for the second nine
Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) used her strength to birdie four of the par-5 holes to salvage a second-placed 77 after being four over par after only five holes. She had double bogeys at the second and the 11th in halves of 39 and 38.

LGU - West Area Final at Ranfurly Castle

Prestwick St Nicholas's Kathleen Dauthieu had the best net round of the day by far to book one of the eight qualifying places in the LGU Medal Grand Final at Crieff on Sunday, June 7, which were up for grabs at the rescheduled West area final at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club yesterday
Only 64 of the original field for the rain-abandoned competition on May 6th turned up second time round but even if they had all turned up it is doubtful if anyone would have got close to Kathleen's net 71 off a handicap of 24.
The ladies' par at Ranfurly Castle is 74 and the SSS 73. The CSS was 76 on a bright and breezy day.
Kathleen's net return was the best of the day by six clear shots.

Kylie has a bad day at Pothcawl

Northern Ireland Danielle McVeigh (Royal Co Down) won the Welsh women’s open amateur stroke-play championship in tough conditions at the so-demanding par-75 (for women) Royal Porthcawl links in South Wales.
Kylie Walker had a final round she will want to forget in a hurry. An 84 for 232 saw her drop down to a tie for sixth place. The Buchanan Castle player double bogeyed both the first and third but got two of the shots back with birdies at the short fourth and the long fifth before bogeying the ninth to turn in three-over-par 40.Then can disaster with a capital “D” – a quadruple bogey 8 at the 10th. Kylie did birdie the long 15th but then lurched off track again with a double bogey 7 at the long 17th and a bogey at the 18th for 44 shots home.Carly Booth (Comrie finished joint 12th with a closing 81 for 234.Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar), runner-up in the “Helen Holm,” also struggled in the last round with an 81 for 236 and 17th place.Laura Murray (Alford) finished with an 83 for 242 and a share of 26th place.Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) had an 83 for joint 29th place on 243
