SCOTTISH GOLF UPDATE ON EVENTS FROM CLARE QUEEN - SCOTTISH GOLF PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR

The 2020 Scottish Golf Order of Merit documents and National Team Selection Policies are also finalised and available to view online Team Selection Policies

Competition opportunities for players of all levels

We are often asked by parents for advice on the types of competitions which are available to players who wish to begin playing outside of their home club.
With this in mind we have created the linked document Competition opportunities for players which lists some of the regional, national and international events which are available, this is purely a guide based on events which may be appropriate for players with various handicaps.

I have also attached a linked document ‘Order of Merit Event Handicap ballotswhich shows the 2019 handicap cut offs for various national championships which appear on the Scottish Golf Boys and Girls Order of Merits, the exact cut off is always hard to predict but this should act as a guide for parents.

We would appreciate it if you could share this information with parents/players in your county who may be interested.

If anyone has any questions please encourage them to contact us by emailing performance@scottishgolf.org Kingsbarns Girls Classic –

Save The Date

Kingsbarns have confirmed that they will once again host the Kingsbarns Girls Classic. This year the event will take place on Sunday 8th November. It is likely that each county will again be able to nominate two girls to play.

We had some really good feedback following the 2019 event from county officials, parents and players and hope this years’ event will also be popular.

More information and details on expected format will be available later in the summer but please add this date to your diary.

Scotland's Jane Turner wins SA Women’s Masters on third playoff hole

It took three trips down the 18th in a playoff before Scotland’s Jane Turner (pictured above) emerged victorious over South Africa’s Cara Gorlei in the Standard Bank South Africa Women’s Masters at San Lameer Country Club on Friday.

Starting the day with a three-shot lead, Jane struggled to a one-over 73 to finish on one-under alongside Gorlei, who carded a two-under 70.
In the playoff, Jane had the measure of the par-four 18th and narrowly missed a birdie attempt – but the tap-in was enough to give her the win.

Historic club captaincy for Elaine Farquharson-Black at Deeside

Winning Curtis Cup captain Elaine Farquharson-Black is the first woman
to be elected as Deeside Golf Club's captain

From the Scotsman Newspaper

Elaine Farquharson-Black's latest addition to an impressive golfing CV has earned the Aberdeen solicitor a place in the record books.

She has become the first female to be elected club captain in the 117-year history of Deeside Golf Club, where she has been a member since she was ten years old.
At the age of 14, she won the Deeside Ladies' Championship for the first time, a feat she repeated for five consecutive years until national and international events began to take precedence.
She came out of 'retirement' to win the championship again in the club's centenary year, while six months pregnant with her second son.
Farquharson-Black represented the club in junior, ladies and men's matches before becoming an honorary member in 1990, the same year she won the Scottish Ladies' Amateur Championship.
"I am honoured to be asked to be the captain of Deeside," said Farquharson-Black, a former Scottish and British internationalist, of her election.
"I see this as an opportunity for me to give something back to the club for the tremendous support which members have given me during my golfing career."
The winning Curtis Cup captain is an active supporter of junior golf within Deeside and was junior convener in 2016-2017 before being appointed vice-captain in 2018.
"As a progressive and vibrant club, we are delighted that Elaine has accepted the Captaincy at Deeside," said club manager Debbie Pern. "She has earned the respect of members both on and off the course.
"During her time as vice captain, Elaine has been instrumental in the preparation of a Strategic Plan to secure the future success of the club and she will take the lead in its implementation as captain."

SCOTTISH GOLF 2020 CALENDAR

Scottish Golf yesterday announced its 2020 fixtures for golfers of all ages and abilities, including the launch of its newest combined Male and Female club event, The Scottish Medal Finals with the lucky winners progressing to play at a specially commissioned amateur event played alongside the European Tour GolfSixes event at Oitavos Dunes, Cascais Portugal in May 2021.

The newly combined Medal Finals event will be open to male and female club golfers, with affiliated clubs invited to enter three of their top performing net players from their 2019 season’s monthly medals into one of six Regional Finals taking place during May, June and July.

On the day of the Regional Final, male and female players will play alongside each other with the top six net male and female qualifiers booking their place at the Home of Golf for the Grand Final which will be played over The Dukes Course on Saturday 22 August with the overall male and female players winning the trip of a lifetime progressing to play at a specially commissioned amateur event played alongside the European Tour GolfSixes event at Oitavos Dunes, Cascais Portugal next year.

The offering for club golfers continues with the hugely successful and free-to-enter R&A 9-Hole Challenge, with Milnathort once again playing host to the two-day Scottish National Final on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June. The prize for the top four teams from the National Final is the money-can’t-buy, all expenses paid experience of playing in the R&A 9-hole Challenge Final over Royal St. Georges on the eve of The 149th Open Championship where they will compete against fellow qualifiers from Australia, England, Ireland, Wales and New Zealand for the overall title.

Completing the portfolio of National Championships for club golfers is the free-to-enter PING Scottish Mixed Championship which will this year be played over the former Men’s and Women’s Scottish Open venue, Gullane No.1 on Friday 23 September where the Top 40 pairs from a National Leaderboard qualify for a great day out and some fantastic prizes courtesy of championship sponsors PING.

Fraser Munro, Head of Events at Scottish Golf, said: We see bringing the Men’s and Women’s Scottish Medal Finals together as a natural and hugely positive step and one which has allowed us to really raise the bar in terms of player experience and prizes. We are grateful to the European Tour, R&A and PING for providing some outstanding prizes, underlining our commitment to golfers of all ages and abilities and we would encourage all clubs to take up these opportunities. Our events themselves provide a great platform for host clubs to market themselves to a global audience and we would like to thank them and our partners for their continued support”.

At elite level, the domestic season tees off with the Scottish Boys’ and Girls’ Open Championships taking place 8-10 April at North Berwick and Powfoot.

Scottish Golf’s flagship Women’s and Men’s Amateur Championships will be staged over Ladybank  (5 – 7 June) and Murcar Golf Links & Portlethen (28 July – 1 August) with two Open Championship venues in Muirfield (29-31 May) and Royal Troon (Troon Portland & Old Course) (17-19 April) playing host to the Scottish Men’s Open and Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open Championships respectively.

Elsewhere the Scottish Senior Men’s Open Championship will take place at Duff House Royal (17-19 June), Pollok will host the Scottish Senior Women’s Open Championship (23 – 26 June) with the Scottish Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championships being held at Haggs Castle and Strathaven in July, with Kirkcaldy and Stirling completing the offering by hosting the Scottish Boy’s U14 Open and Scottish Girl’s Open (9 – 10 August) respectively.

Scottish Golf projects its digital future with new brand launch

A new era for Scottish Golf

The governing body for golf in Scotland has today launched its new brand as the organisation gets set to embrace the digital world. Unveiled at Scotland’s Three Sisters in the beautiful Glencoe Mountain Range, the organisation’s new-look logo was digitally projected on to the side of the iconic mountains.

The logo, which maintains the recognisable Scottish Golf brand, has been modernised to create a more digital feel, ensuring the national governing body can be easily identified with a contemporary logo that is fit for purpose across all platforms.

Andrew McKinlay, CEO at Scottish Golf said, “This is an extremely exciting time for us here at Scottish Golf as we enter a new era and challenge the status quo through the use of digital technology. "
"Our new logo has been designed carefully to celebrate our history while also broadening our horizons to welcome new people into our game."
"As the governing body for the sport here in its home, we all take responsibility in being custodians of the game and its future."
"We know that it is important that we continue to adapt to changes in an evolving landscape to encourage more people to enjoy the game.”

The new logo is part of a wider rebranding exercise which includes a new Scottish Golf website designed to reflect our vision of making golf Scotland’s game for everyone. The new website will provide our audience with a straightforward user experience, where information is at their fingertips.

Iain Forsyth, Chief Commercial Officer at Scottish Golf added, “The new Scottish Golf brand is representative of the journey we are on as a sport in Scotland. We believe that by taking advantage of developments in technology to modernise the game, while also continuing to celebrate our heritage, we can appeal to more people to ensure that the game of golf in Scotland has a bright and prosperous future.
“With our updated website, users will have an enhanced experience with Scottish Golf which we believe will make accessing information about tournaments, news and education far easier for everyone. This is a key step in becoming more accessible to everyone and the new website will also fully integrate with Scottish Golf’s new Venue Management System to make the experience for golfer and golf club seamless and straightforward.”

RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY BEETLE DRIVE SUCCESS

L to R - Lynda Bradley, Aileen Wilson
and Mo Neilson with Sandra Littlejohn

85 Ladies attended the Renfrewshire Ladies' County Golf Association Annual Fund Raising Beetle Drive yesterday afternoon at Haggs Castle Golf Club.

Captain Sandra Littlejohn and her helpers organised an exceedingly enjoyable event yet again.

Aileen Wilson (Haggs Castle) was the overall winner with Lynda Bradley (Kilmacolm)  a close 2nd.

Mo Neilson (Greenock) was up to her usual not so good drawing standard standard and won the the prize for the worst drawn beetle !!

A few words of thanks from Captain Sandra Littlejohn -   From the RLCGA Website

"On behalf of Donna, Pearl, the Committee and myself, I’d like to thank everyone for their raffle and silent auction donations plus all the Renfrewshire Clubs that donated four balls as Star prizes in support of our annual fund-raising Beetle Drive at Haggs Castle Golf Club on Sunday. "

"A total of £1,200 was raised which is a fantastic amount. Judging by the noise level, everyone seemed to be having a great time catching up with friends and participating in a very competitive beetle drive."

Thanks also goes to:

 • Carol McNally, Doreen Mainds, Nicola McAllister and Linda Ellery for providing the retail therapy;
 • Kevin at Haggs Castle Golf Club who made sure we were fed and watered - it can’t be easy serving up tea/coffee and cakes to 80+ ladies in a short period of time (and thanks to the bouncers Elaine Munn and Pearl there were no ‘cake wars’);
 • Fiona Armour and Carol Fell, respectively, for all the photographs and video recording of the day; and
 • Julie, June, Tracy and Pearl for selling/drawing the raffles, star prizes, looking after the silent auction, counting of the cash and making sure everything went according to plan.

" Finally, I hope the 2020 golf season is a good one and I look forward to seeing many of you over the summer. "

 Thanks again. Captain Sandra

Carol and Alyson reach the finals of the Renfrewshire Winter Foursomes

Click to Enlarge to read results

Home players  Carol McNally and Alyson McGinnigle (Williamwood) played the Whitecraigs pairing of Lorna Boyd and Linda Hay in the RLCGA Winter Foursomes Semi Final a couple of weeks ago.

For a January day the weather and course were extremely favourable.

The home team took an early lead over the first several holes but with a magnificent Golden Ferret by Lorna the game sat at Williamwood 3 up playing 6th which was halved in birdies.

After halving 7th; Whitecraigs' ladies won 8th hole and Williamwood 9th.
The toughest hole on the course was halved. Williamwood won par 3 11th followed by Whitecraigs winning the tricky 12th.

After Williamwood winning 13th and the long 14th being halved this meant home duo dormie 4. Good drive by Alyson set up par and a win on 15th green.

A really friendly game in great County spirit.

Carol and Alyson now meet the winners of the other semi final between Alison Murray and Lesley Robertson (Ranfurly Castle) and Morag Key (Ralston) and Anita McMillan (Erskine)
