Clare Queen is 5th in the UNIQA Ladies Open where Laura Davies is a winner

Laura Davies produced a vintage performance to end a 13-month wait for a title at the UNIQA Ladies Open near Vienna in Austria today.
The 43-year-old from England added a final day six-under-par 66 to her previous rounds of 69 and 65 - (which was a new course record) – to claim her 36th Ladies European Tour title and her 68th in total.
Laura finished on 16-under-par 200 after 54 holes, four strokes ahead of Sweden’s Sophie Gustafson in second.

Clare Queen (The Carrick (Loch Lomond) shot a third-round 68, one of her best rounds of the season. She had 16 birdies and one double bogey over the 54 holes. In her final round she reached five-under-par 211 with birdies at the second, seventh, ninth, 10th, 14th and 15th. Clare bogeyed the 13th and 17th. Her cash prize amounted to 8,750 Euros.
Inverness-based New Zealander Liz McKinnon had one of her better finishes of the season - joint 12th on two-under-par 214 with rounds of 70, 70 and 74 to earn 3,771 Euros. Her late birdies at the 15th and 16th came just at the right time to boost her finishing position

Scottish Ladies Open Play delayed

The second day’s play at the De Vere Ladies Scottish Open was halted due to bad light at 7.10pm.
Heavy rainfall on Thursday night meant that tee times were pushed back three hours while officials assessed the course.
Sweden’s Sofia Renell leads the field on two-under-par 140 after shooting a three-under 68.
South Queensferry 16-year-old amateur Sally Watson had another good day with a 75 for 145, a 36-hole total which puts her ahead of professionals of the calibre of Janice moodie (146), Catriona Matthew (148) and Lynn Kenny (148).
Quite a few players have still to complete their second rounds which means that the third and final round will start late on Saturday.

Erskine Girls get coaching from Clare Queen and Catriona Matthew

Erskine girls were invited to attend a coaching clinic with Catriona Matthew and Clare Queen at the beautiful Carrick course prior to The Scottish Ladies Open this week. The girls were all smiles as you can see despite the awful weather. Catriona and Clare spent an hour with them giving some hints and tips and after signed autographs on hats, books etc. This was a unique and very rewarding experience for the girls aged between 9 and 13 who are all enjoying ClubGolf coaching at Erskine. There are now 11 girls participating in weekly coaching sessions at the club thanks to the volunteer coaches who make it all possible. Pictured with the girls are Janette McCartney, Sandra Littlejohn and Patricia Davidson all level 1 coaches and RLCGA members.

Noreen Fenton the best Scot at the British Seniors

Edinburgh's Noreen Fenton finished a gallant fourth behind runaway winner Alison Murdoch from Canada in the British senior women's open amateur golf championship which ended at Copt Heath Golf Club, Solihull today.
Noreen was consistency personnified with three rounds of 79 for a total of 18-over-par 237 over a punishing ladies' course with a testing par of 73, which no player, not even the new champion, equalled in any of the rounds.
Noreen had no birdies in her final round and did well to hang on in there after a double bogey 6 at the fourth threatened to derail her steady effort. She was out in 40 and home in 39 in comparison with her earlier halves of 40-39 and 39-40.
Pamela Williamson (Baberton), who won the recent Canadian senior women's open amateur championship's "Super-seniors" (over-60) title, finished joint 11th with Fiona de Vries (St Rule) on 241. Pamela signed off with a 78 (37-41) and Fiona with an 80 (42-38).

RLCGA's Honorary Member Maureen Richmond (Kilmacolm) the 1974 Curtis Cup player and now a GP in Lancashire, came joint 15th on 244 - which was quite an achievement, considering she started with a first round of 92. After that she had a 74 and then a 78 today
Give Maureen, winner of the Spanish open seniors title earlier in the year, an 82 instead of a 92 in the first round and she would have finished runner-up for the title!
Dundee's Heather Anderson birdied the fourth, 14th and 15th in closing halves of 41 and 40 for an 81 and jt 27th place with Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) on 248. Helen unfortunately had three double bogeys in a closing 84.

Helen Faulds makes the cut in the British Seniors

Noreen Fenton and Pat Hutton were sharing fourth place at the beginning of the second day of the British senior women's open amateur golf championship at Copt Heath Golf Club, Solihull.
At the end of it, Noreen, from the Merchants of Edinburgh Club had hung on to a share of third place with a repeat 79 for 158.
But Pat unfortunately had a disaster day with a 90 for 169 - and missed the cut which reduced the field to the 40 players who will play Friday's third and final round.
Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) had halves of 37 and 42 for a 79 and 164 to make the cut and Maureen Richmond, who, as Maureen Walker (RLCGA and Kilmacolm) was a Curtis Cup player in 1974, made the biggest improvement between rounds .... from a 92 to a 74, which was more like the player who won the Spanish senior women's open title earlier this year. Maureen had an eagle 2 at the sixth and birdies at two par-5s, the seventh and the 16th in halves of 35 and 39, compared with 49-43 on Wednesday.

Scotland beat Wales and are Runners Up in the Home Internationals

The 2007 Scottish Ladies Golf Team
England won the women’s home international golf series at Dunbar Golf Club today for the third year in a row. They finished with a 100 % record at the end of the three-day programme, clinching the championship by coping with some stout resistance from Ireland who were eventually beaten 5 ½-3 1/2.
And England did it without the services of one of their key players, Melissa Reid, who had an injured wrist. The English had the "MVP" of the tournament in young Rachel Jennings who gained 5 1/2pt out of a possible six. Next best for England were Naomi Edwards, Kerry Smith and Elizabeth Bennett, all with 4 1/2pt each.
Scotland, who have not won the title since 1991 at Aberdovey, finished runners-up by beating Wales 6-3. The Scots won the foursomes 2-1 but at one stage in the afternoon trailed in five of the six singles. However, they finished strongly and eventually won four of the singles.
Scottish champion Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) lost for the fourth session of play in a row, going down by 2 and 1 to Tara Davies in the top singles tie. Jenna, who had been three down at the turn before getting a bit of a recovery going, finished with 1 1/2pt out of a possible six.

Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) went down by 4 and 3 to Lucy Gould after winning the fourth and fifth but trailing by two holes at the turn. Pamela finished with 2pt out of a possible four.

Scotland well beaten by England in the Home Internationals

Even a draw against Ireland would see England win the women’s home amateur international golf championship for the third year in a row at Dunbar Golf Club tomorrow.
The English snuffed out the challenge of Scotland’s young team with a 7 1/2-1 1/2 victory while Ireland, beaten by the Scots on the opening day, bounced back with a 7-2 win over Wales.
The writing was on the wall in capital letters for the Scots when England made a 3-0 clean sweep of the morning foursomes.

Scotland beat Ireland in the Home Internationals

Scotland, fielding one of their youngest-ever teams, made a great start to the women's home amateur golf internationals at Dunbar Golf Club today.
They beat Ireland 6-3 after sharing the foursomes 1 1/2-1 1/2 and taking the singles 4 1/2-1 1/2.
England, bidding to win the title for the third year in a row, beat Wales 6-3.
Scotland's line-up, average age just over 18 years, responded well to the pressure. All bar Scottish champion Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) are playing in the home internationals for the first time.
Jenna led by example by winning the top singles 3 and 2 against Irish champion Karen Delaney. Carly Booth, the 16-year-old Comrie player, followed that with a one-hole over over Danielle McVeigh.
Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder) lost by 3 and 2 to Tara Delaney, who, alongwith sister Karen had flown back from Kent State University, Ohio to play for their country this week.
Teenagers Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) and Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) showed the match-play skills that won them their county titles earlier this season. Megan got a square match against the experienced Marian Riordan while Pamela Pretswell won by 3 and 1 against Gillian O'Leary, another very experienced player at this level.
It was left to Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon to produce Scotland's shot of the day to win the final singles against Maura Morrin. Michelle strayed on to the first fairway with her drive off the 18th tee but she hit a glorious toweing eight iron that came to a stop only a foot for a hole ... a birdie 3 that gave her the Aberdeenshire champion a one-hole victory.
Scotland skipper Jayne Smith said:
"I am so proud of them. We have such a young team and they have been fantastic. The team spirit is great. We are taking each day as it comes but I am hoping for more of the same on Thursday."
Welsh player Tara Davies had a hole in one with a nine-iron at the 135yd 16th hole in her singles tie with Rachel Jennings. The ace squared the match which finished on level pegging.
First-day details:

MIDLOTHIAN ARE NEW SCOTTISH CHAMPIONS

Midlothian are the new Scottish women's county champions - by the narrowest of margins over Aberdeenshire.
On the third and final day at Tulliallan Golf Club, Midlothian beat Dumfries-shire while Aberdeenshire beat Dunbartonshire & Argyll 6 1/2-2 1/2.
That meant that Midlothian and Aberdeenshire, both with two wins and one draw to their credit, tied on 2 1/2pt each.
The tie-break was a countback of individual games won and Midlothian secured the title by having won one more game than Aberdeenshire.
Midlothian last won the title in 2005. Aberdeenshire still have not been champions since Powfoot in 1986.

D&A Lose against Midlothian - Day 2

The stage is set for a “photo-finish” to the Scottish women’s county golf championship at Tulliallan Golf Club tomorrow.
Dunbartonshire & Argyll were knocked off the top of the table at the end of the second day by Midlothian who beat them 7-2, thanks to winning five of the singles and halving the other.
Aberdeenshire, who drew with Midlothian on the opening day, had an even bigger-margin win, 7 ½-1 ½, over Dumfries-shire. Shire laid the foundation for their victory by making a 3-0 clean sweep of the foursomes
Midlothian and Aberdeenshire are now joint table leaders with one win and one draw each. It would seem there is not much between them.
Midlothian finish with a match against Dumfries-shire while Aberdeenshire play Dunbartonshire & Argyll. If both Midlothian and Aberdeenshire win, then they will be level on points and it will go down to a countback of individual wins over the three days.

Scottish champion Jenna Wilson from Strathaven had her worst round of the four days - a five-over-par 77 - to finish joint 19th on 299 in the European women's amateur individual golf championship at Golf National Club near Paris on Saturday.
After three 74s in a row, Jenna was looking to get closer to par and she reached the turn in level 36 only to have a nightmare inward half of 41. She ran up a triple bogey 7 at the 10th, birdied the 11th, bogeyed the 12th and double-bogeyed the 13th before dropping her final shot at the 17th.
Jenna was the only one of four Scots who started the championship to survive the 54-hole cut. Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), Gemma Webster (Hilton Park) and Clare-Marie Carlton (Stirling University) were eliminated.
